Assertive Sentence
যে Sentence দিয়ে সাধারণভাবে কোনো বিবৃতি প্রদান বা কোন ঘটনা বর্ণনা করা হয়, তাকে
Assertive Sentence বলে।
A sentence that makes a statement or assertion is called a Declarative or
Assertive Sentence.
Structure :
এই ধরনের বাক্য গঠন করতে সাধারণত Subject + verb + extension এরূপ হয়ে থাকে।
(এখানে extension বলতে verb এর পরবর্তী সবকিছু বোঝানো হয়েছে।)
Example :
নাসিমা মনোযোগের সাথে পড়ে।
Nasima reads attentively.
আমি তাকে চিনি না।
I do not (don't) know him.
আমরা দুধ পান করি।
We drink milk.
সে রুটি খায় না।
He does not (doesn't) eat bread.
একটি জিনিস স্মরণে রাখবে :
Assertive Sentence দিয়ে কোনো প্রশ্ন জিজ্ঞেস করা হয় না। তাই এর শেষে কখনোই
প্রশ্নবোধক চিহ্ন (?) বসবে না। আবার এর দ্বারা কোনো আবেগ (বিস্ময়, বিরক্তি, দুঃখ,
সুখ) ইত্যাদি প্রকাশিত হয় না, তাই এর শেষে আবেগ বা বিস্ময়সূচক চিহ্ন (!) বসে না।
আবার, এর দ্বারা কোনো কামনা বা প্রার্থনাও চাওয়া হয় না।
Assertive Sentence এর Classification (শ্রেণিবিভাগ)
Assertive Sentence দুই প্রকারের হয়ে থাকে। যথা—
- Affirmative Sentence ( হ্যা বোধক বাক্য)
- Negative Sentence (না বোধক বাক্য)
Affirmative Sentence (হ্যা বোধক বাক্য) :
যে বিবৃতিমূলক বা Assertive Sentence এ কোন স্বীকৃতিমূলক বিবৃতি বা হ্যাঁ বোধক
বক্তব্য প্রদান করা হয়, তাকে Affirmative Sentence বলে।
A sentence that is affirms something is called an Affirmative sentence.
Example :
শান্তা একটি পত্র লিখে।
Shanta writes a letter.
তাহারা ক্রিকেট খেলিতেছে।
They are playing cricket.
আমি একজন শিক্ষক।
I am a teacher.
লোকটি পাগল ছিল।
The man was mad.
আমি একাজ করি।
I do it.
সে একজন বালক।
He is a boy.
মানুষ মরণশীল।
Man is mortal.
তারা এখানে এসেছিল।
They came here.
লক্ষ্য কর :
উপরের কোনো বাক্যেই কোনো কিছু অস্বীকার (Deny) করা হচ্ছে না; প্রত্যেকটা বাক্যেই
কোনো বিষয়কে স্বীকার করা হচ্ছে বা তার সমন্ধে হাঁ বোধক উক্তি করা হচ্ছে। সুতরাং
বাক্যগুলো Affirmative Sentence এর।
Negative Sentence (না বোধক বাক্য) :
যে Sentence দিয়ে না বোধক বা অস্বীকৃতিমূলক বিবৃতি প্রদান করা হয়, তাকে Negative
Sentence বলে।
A sentence that denies something is called a Negative sentence.
Example :
শান্তা একটি পত্র লিখে না।
Shanta does not write a letter.
তাহারা ক্রিকেট খেলিতেছে না।
They are not playing cricket.
আমি একজন শিক্ষক নই।
I am not a teacher.
লোকটি পাগল ছিল না।
The man was not mad.
সে ভাল নয়।
He does not good.
সে এখানে আসে নি।
He did not come here.
মানুষ অমর নয়।
Man is not immortal.
আমার কোনো কলম নেই।
I have no pen.
লক্ষ্য কর :
উপরের প্রত্যেকটা বাক্যই কোনো না কোনো বিষয়কে অস্বীকার/ না বোধক (deny) করা
হচ্ছে। তাই এরা হলো Negative Sentence.
Negative Sentence গঠন করার উপায়
(১)
Present Indefinite Tense
এ Negative বাক্য গঠন করতে হলে verb এর আগে do not / does not বসাতে হয়। (verb
যদি ordinary verb হয়।) Example :
আমি ভাত খাই।
I eat rice. (Affirmative)
I do not eat rice. (Negative)
সে স্কুলে যায়।
He goes to school. (Affirmative)
He does not go to school. (Negative)
Note :
does ব্যবহার করলে Negative Sentence এ verb এর সাথে es / s ব্যবহার হয় না।

Past Indefinite Tense
এ Negative বাক্য গঠন করতে হলে verb এর আগে did not বসাতে হয়। (verb যদি ordinary
verb হয়।) Example :
আমি ভাত খেয়েছিলাম।
I ate rice. (Affirmative)
I did not eat rice. (Negative)
সে সেখানে গিয়েছিল।
She went there. (Affirmative)
She did not go there. (Negative)
Note :
মনে রাখুন, verb এর আগে did ব্যবহার করলে ঐ verb এর past আর ব্যবহার করা হয়
না। তখন present রূপ বসাতে হয়।
(৩) may, might, can, could, shall, should, will, would, am, is, are,
was, were, need, dare ইত্যাদি modal, semi modal or defective verb বাক্যে থাকলে
তাকে negative করতে do / does / did ব্যবহার করতে হয় না; তাদের পরে শুধু not যোগ
করে দিলেই হয়। যেমন—
সে আসতে পারে।
He may come. (Affirmative)
He may not come. (Negative)
আমি এটা করতে পারি।
I can do it. (Affirmative)
I can not (can't) do it. (Negative)
আমি যাব।
I shall go. (Affirmative)
I shall not go. (Negative)
আমি একজন ছাত্র।
I am a student. (affirmative)
I am not a student. (Negative)
(৪) Present এবং
Past Indefinite Tense
বাদে অন্যান্য Tense এর Negative Sentence গঠন করতে হলে ঐ Tense এর Affirmative
Sentence এ যে auxiliary verb থাকে তার পরে not বসাতে হয়। যেমন—
I am doing the work. (Affirmative,
Present Continuous Tense)
I am not doing the work. (Negative)
They were walking. (Affirmative,
Past Continuous Tense)
They were not walking. (Negative)
She has done this. (Affirmative,
Present Perfect Tense)
She has not done this. (Negative)
You will go. (Affirmative,
Future Indefinite Tense)
You will not go. (Negative)
