All that glitters is not gold.

Main idea : We should not judge things by their outward appearances. We should not be deceived by the beautiful surface of anything.
Amplification : Gold is the most precious and useful of all metals. It is a shiny and glittering metal. It has high intrinsic value. There are many things on earth that glitter and dazzle. But, they have no internal value. Likewise, there are many worthless people in the society. They may outwardly look beautiful and valuable. But, they are hollow and empty in case of qualification. A person may be well-dressed and may look like a gentleman: but in reality, he may be a cheat or a thief. His inherent quality may be bad. Similarly, a good-looking food may cause stomach disorders. It may create other diseases. On the other hand, a bad-looking person may possess admirable qualities. So, outward or external appearance is not the mode of judging the merit of a person or thing. Both external and internal value of a person is essential for judging his quality. Face is not the index of mind.

মূলভাব : তাদের বাহ্য আড়ম্বর দ্বারা আমাদের জিনিসের বিচার করা উচিত নয়। কোনো কিছুর বাইরের সুন্দর আকৃতির দ্বারা আমাদের প্রভাবিত হওয়া উচিত নয়।
ভাব সম্প্রসারণ : সকল ধাতুর মধ্যে স্বর্ণ সবচেয়ে মূল্যবান ও প্রয়োজনীয়। এটি একটি চকচকে ও উজ্জ্বল ধাতু। এর উচ্চ অন্তর্নিহিত মূল্য আছে। পৃথিবীতে অনেক জিনিস আছে যা উজ্জ্বল ও চোখ ধাঁধানো। কিন্তু তাদের কোন অভ্যন্তরীণ মূল্য নেই। একইরূপে সমাজে অনেক অকর্মণ্য লোক কাছে। তারা বাহ্যিকভাবে দেখতে সুন্দর ও মূল্যবান হতে পারে। কিন্তু যোগ্যতার বিষয়ে তারা ফাপা ও শূন্য। একজন ব্যক্তি সুসজ্জিত হতে পারে এবং দেখতে একজন ভদ্রলোকের মতো মনে হতে পারে, কিন্তু বাস্তবিকপক্ষে সে একজন প্রতারক বা চোর হতে পারে। তার স্বাভাবিক গুণ মন্দ হতে পারে। একইভাবে ভালো দেখতে একটি খাবার পেটের গোলযোগ সৃষ্টি করতে পারে। এটি অন্য অসুখও সৃষ্টি করতে পারে। অপরপক্ষে, একজন কদর্য দর্শন ব্যক্তি প্রশংসনীয় গুণাবলির অধিকারী হতে পারেন। তাই বহির্দিক বা বাহ্য আড়ম্বর একজন ব্যক্তি বা জিনিসের যোগ্যতা যাচাইয়ের ধরন নয়। একজন ব্যক্তির বাহ্যিক ও অভ্যন্তরীন উভয়মূল্য তার যোগ্যতা যাচাইয়ের জন্য অত্যাবশ্যক। মুখমণ্ডল মনের সূচক নয়।
