Life’s School
Trishna Bhandari
Your mind is a meadow
To plant for your needs;
You are the farmer
With knowledge of seeds;
Don’t have your meadow?
Unplanted and bare,
Sow it with knowledge
And tend it with care.
Who’d be might grow
The seeds of knowledge
Of stars and snow;
The science of numbers,
The stories of time –
The magic of music
The secrets of rhyme?
Don’t be a know-nothing!
Plant in the spring.
And see what harvest –
the summer will bring.
তোমার মন একটি তৃণভূমি
তোমার প্রয়োজনে চারা লাগানোর জন্য;
তুমি কৃষক
বপণ কর জ্ঞানের বীজ,
তোমার এ ভূমিকে কখনো ফেলে রেখো না
অনাবদী এবং শূন্য করে,
এখানে জ্ঞানের বীজ লাগাও
এবং এগুলোকে সযত্নে লালন কর।
কে থাকবে অজ্ঞ?
যখন সে বড় হবে
জ্ঞানের বীজ
নক্ষত্ররাজি ও তুষারের
সংখ্যা বিজ্ঞানের গণিতের
সময় বিবর্তনের কাহিনীর,
সঙ্গীতের জাদুর
ছন্দের গোপন রহস্য?
অজ্ঞ হয়ো না!
রোপণ কর বসন্তকালে,
এবং দেখ কী ফসল
গ্রীষ্মকাল বয়ে আনে।
The Theme : In the poem the poet gives advice to acquire knowledge. He wants to convey the message that we should not keep our minds empty. The poet compares human mind with a meadow, and the learners with a farmer. A learner should plant the seeds of different types of knowledge and take proper care if he wants to have a good harvest. He also advises that one should know the value of time. Thus, we can say that the theme of the poem might be the poet’s opinion that life without knowledge will be incomplete and miserable.
(কবিতায় কবি জ্ঞানার্জনের উপদেশ দিয়েছেন। তিনি এই বার্তা পৌঁছে দিতে চান যে, আমাদের মনকে শূন্য রাখা উচিত না। কবি মানব মনকে চারণভূমির সাথে এবং শিক্ষার্থীদেরকে কৃষকের সাথে তুলনা করেছেন। একজন শিক্ষার্থীর উচিত বিভিন্ন ধরনের জ্ঞানের বীজ রোপন করা এবং ঠিকমতো যত্ন নেয়া যদি সে ভালো ফসল পেতে পায়। তিনি আরও উপদেশ দেন যে সময়ের মল্য জানতে হবে। এভাবে আমরা বলতে পারি যে কবিতাটির বিষয়বস্তু হতে পারে কবির এই মতামত যে, জ্ঞান ছাড়া জীবন হবে অসম্পূর্ণ ও দুর্দশাময়।)
