Paragraph - 356

Health is wealth

Health is a blessing of God. It enables a man to enjoy a happy life. It is the most important asset of a man. Physical exercise is necessary to preserve good health. Reputation, wealth, honour- all are meaningless to a healthless man. At the cost of health, one should not run after wealth as health is the greatest wealth. A healthy poor man is happier than a rich healthless man. He is healthy whose body is sound with a sound mind. Regular exercise keeps the body sound and if the body is sound the mind too becomes sound. One should take a balanced diet to maintain good health. Drinking a definite quantity of clean water and sleeping for a definite period is useful to keep sound health. Cleanliness also ensures keeping good health. Students should be careful about their health, otherwise, they cannot be able to work hard for good results. Health is such a wealth that if it is lost all other wealth stands out futile.

Paragraph - 357

Honesty is the best policy

Honesty is a great virtue. The man who possesses this quality is the luckiest person. To be an honest man one must have trustworthiness, for nobody trusts a liar. If we become honest all will respect us. And we shall be successful in every sphere of life. A dishonest man is hated by all. Sometimes a dishonest man may be able to hide his dishonesty. But very soon his dishonesty will be exposed. In this way, dishonest men lose their fame. Nobody will like to deal with them. So, the dishonest man fails in every sphere of life. On the other hand, an honest man becomes powerful and wealthy. For the time being, dishonest men may be successful but in the long run, they have to suffer. So, everybody should try to remain honest in his thoughts and deeds.

Paragraph - 358

Industry is the mother of good luck

Some people think that good luck is a god-send. But this is not correct. God helps those who help themselves. Thus if a man helps himself he becomes successful in life. In other words, if a man exerts himself and works hard, success or good luck must come to him. Good luck, in fact, is the outcome of industry or diligence which means hard work. If a student works hard throughout the whole year, he will be rewarded with the good luck of brilliant result at the examination. Similarly, a hard-working farmer will have the good luck of being in a position to live happily. There are people who do not exert themselves properly or who lack the strength of mind. In the face of difficulties, they lose heart, give up their efforts altogether and lay the blame on fate. They do not understand that they would have become successful had they worked hard with patience and perseverance. It is industry that conquers all obstacles and paves the way for good luck.

Paragraph - 359

Knowledge is power

Power, in the true sense of the term, lies in knowledge. But we generally think that power belongs to the strong. When two wrestlers fight, we think that the stronger will win. And in a battle, the country with the larger army expects that it will be victorious. But strength without knowledge is blind. A blind giant cannot cope with a man who has sharp eyes. Knowledge is the secret of success in all warfare. The fortunes of battles have in all ages been determined by the part played by new weapons. The weapons are the result of new inventions which are only indications of man’s knowledge of the secrets of destruction. In ancient times men had no knowledge of Nature and they thought that the trees and the hills were inhabited by spirits and fairies. But along with the passing of days men have discovered many unknown things, many mysteries of Nature. Knowledge has made power in the science of medicine. Men have not yet invented medicines of all deceases. But they are trying. This is possibly the most beneficent aspect of man’s knowledge. Knowledge helps men not only to control the forces of nature but also to exercise power over other men. Man’s most recent achievement is the increasing power that he has established over himself through knowledge. So, knowledge plays a very significant role in the power of human civilization.

Paragraph - 360

Look before you leap

We understand that if anybody wants to perform anything by making a leap, he should ponder well before actually making it. We may imagine a situation in which there is a chasm on the road that a traveller wants to cross by making a leap. Just after making the leap and covering half the distance, he finds it impossible to reach the other side. So he falls into the chasm and his attempt ends in failure. If he had carefully looked at the distance to be covered, the momentum required for the leap to cover that distance, the measure of energy needed for the attempt and made his leap in accordance with his calculation before already having made the leap his attempt would have brought him success. What he should have done is to have calculated the extent of achievement he wanted to make by the leap before he actually made it. If he had done this he would not have fallen into the chasm, or would not have leapt at all in case he had found it impossible to cross the chasm by means of the leap. This literal significance of the adage is quite true in respect of every deed that we need to perform in our day to day life. Before undertaking the work we should consider its pros and cons, devise the ways and means to perform it and then proceed to carry it out. But if we start doing the work without exercising adequate consideration about the pros and cons as well as the processes and begin to think about all this during the course of execution then chances will be more of failure than of success, like the traveller who falls into the chasm during the course of the leap made without prior consideration.
