It relieves us from the monotony of daily life. But in our country, buying books has not become a popular habit. The students of our country read-only textbooks for passing exams. Most of them do not have a curiosity to get outside knowledge. Besides this, in our country, the prices of books are excessively high. Books are beyond reach due to sky-scraping price. In the past, books were the only media for entertainment. People spent their leisure reading books. But now, the satellite TV channel has created many opportunities for entertainment. People are not so interested to read books. For this interest in buying books is gradually buying out. To build up the good habit of buying books, prices of books should be reduced. Paragraph - 154

Brain Drain

The migration of meritorious, skilled and experienced people from one country to another is called brain drain. Lured by the charms of developed countries bright boys and girls leave their poor native lands and go abroad and after finishing their higher studies settle there. Often expert doctors, scientists, and engineers go abroad and work there for fat salaries and better service conditions. Owing to this brain drain the home country becomes a loser as it is deprived of the services of its better people. This happens when these people settle there permanently. But if they work there for a limited period and send money to their native land then the country is benefited by getting foreign exchange. And if the intelligent and skilled people leave the country for good then the poor native land becomes poorer indeed by losing its better sons. But disregarding the lure of high salary and better living conditions some people stay home and work for the betterment of the motherland and they are the real patriots.

Bad Effects of TV

Although television has been regarded as the most common and widespread source of entertainment, it has some bad effects too. Usually, TV reminds us of various types of entertainment. It shows countries of the world. TV programmes can be highly educative too. For Example, television is used for distance learning courses run by the Open University. But sometimes television does a lot of harm too. Western culture affects our teenagers very badly. Even in America, it has been found that children are spending 22000 hours watching TV before their graduation whereas they spend only 11000 hours during that period of time. It has also been found that TV programmes are influencing children’s behaviour and learning style. Same is the case with the children and teenagers of Bangladesh. Many of them are addicted to television, especially to the cricket-programmes. Addiction to television is a very bad sign for our future generation. We must try to control our children and teenagers from random watching of television and it can be done by taking the proper initiative by the guardians and parents.
