Paragraph - 302

Students’ Failure in English

Students’ large scale failure in English is a serious problem in Bangladesh. We learn English as a foreign language. It has been taught as a compulsory subject in our education system. But it is a matter of regret that the students’ failure in English is so alarming and great in number that the whole nation is frightened for the future of the country. The causes of the students’ failure in English are many. The method of English teaching is quite unsound. In the primary level students do not get to learn English well. Most teachers are not efficient in teaching English. Thus from the primary level students get no interest in learning English and it continues at higher levels also. Speaking English is the pre-condition of learning English well. Our students have no chance to speak English. Defective syllabus, want of teachers, lack of language usage, scarcity of books- all these are the causes of the students’ failure in English. The government should take necessary steps to remove all these undesired conditions that impede the effective learning of English.

Paragraph - 303

Socialism

Socialism is that kind of state policy which observes that land, transport, natural resources, the chief industries, etc. should be owned and managed by the state or public bodies, and wealth, equally distributed. Karl Marx is said to be the father of socialism. Socialism has a lot of merits. It is the opposite theory of capitalism. Privatization never exists in a socialistic society. All are equal in a socialistic society. In this society, one will not starve while the other will take a heavy lunch. It aims to make a bridge between the rich and the poor. Socialism has some demerits too. It turns an individual into a machine because one is not given the right to put forward one’s own opinion. Thus socialism seizes the rights that democracy provides. But it is true that the problem of unemployment can be solved by the implementation of socialism.

Paragraph - 304

Sound Pollution

Like many other pollutions, sound pollution is endangering our living and our environment. The sound is a kind of energy which man has applied to various fields of everyday life with success. But in the process, the chances of sound pollution have also taken a great leap. Quietness is natural and highly necessary for peace of sound pollutions. Horns and whistles of different vehicles plying on the roads are polluting the environment a lot. Besides, the drivers often press the horns unnecessarily even near the schools and hospitals, which causes serious problems to the students and patients. Moreover, our young generation has a peculiar fascination towards listening music at high volume. Various shops and hotels at the roadsides also tune their audio system loudly to attract customers. Mikes and load speakers are also used on many occasions without considering any limitation. Shouting slogans on the roads as well as on the campus tells upon the peaceful atmosphere. The sounds of mills, factories, and power loom also contribute to sound pollution. So if we wish to control sound pollution, we need to develop awareness among the people and also enforce the law strictly.

Paragraph - 305

Slum Dwellers

Slum dwellers are those who live outside roads and railway tracks in badly built houses in a city. Slum dwellers are seen in most of the cities of Bangladesh. During the last few years, the percentage of slum dwellers in the capital has gone up to about 25 from 12. The numbers of the slum dwellers are increasing day by day in large scales. None can challenge them for living by the sides of roads and railway tracks. They are polluting the environment by throwing human wastages here and there and engaging themselves in anti-social activities. These slums are suitable places for miscreants, drugs and all kinds of criminal activities. Slum dwellers who occupy roadsides and footpaths earn their livelihood by selling various kinds of goods and pulling rickshaws. Nowadays they have started to take part in national politics. They are exploited for organizing hartals, picketing, road blocking, damaging vehicles, and public properties, etc. So, they become challenging for society. Besides, the atmosphere of the slums is unhealthy. They do not maintain family planning. Various kinds of diseases are the common features of the slums. It is very difficult to eradicate them once they settle in the slum areas having political umbrellas. Some slum dwellers have been enlisted as voters too. So a national consensus on this issue is very necessary to evict them. Otherwise, it would remain impossible always. However, the government has taken a project named “Ghore Fera” to rehabilitate them in villages. It is a good plan. All political parties, as well as the general citizens, should come forward to rehabilitate the slum dwellers properly in suitable places in order to build a healthy nation.
