A Poet to His Beloved
W. B. Yeats
I bring you with reverent hands
The books of my numberless dreams
White woman that passion has worn
As the tide wears the dove-gray sands,
And with heart more old than the horn
That is brimmed from the pale fire horn
That is brimmed from the pale fire of time;
White woman with numberless dreams
I bring you my passionate rhyme.
The Theme : The poem expresses the deep love of the poet to his lover. The poet wrote this poem as a part of one of his proposals of marriage to a young woman. He fell in love with the young woman and remained faithful even though she married another man. He also says how his love for her has grown the longer. It is as if he already is married to her in his heart of hearts. He in fact admired her for her convictions and determination.
(কবিতাটি প্রেয়সির জন্য কবির গভীর ভালবাসার কথা প্রকাশ করছে। একজন মহিলাকে তার দেয়া বিবাহের প্রস্তাবগুলোর অংশ হিসেবে কবি এই কবিতাটি লিখেন। তিনি সেই তরুণীর প্রেমে পড়েন আর বিশ্বস্ত থাকেন যদিও সেই মহিলা অন্য পুরুষকে বিবাহ করেন। তিনি এ কথাও বলেন কীভাবে তার জন্য তার ভালবাসা দীর্ঘতর হলো। এমনটা হয়েছে যেন অন্তরের অন্তঃস্থল থেকে সে ইতিমধ্যে সেই মহিলার সাথে বিবাহিত। সেই মহিলার বিশ্বাস ও প্রত্যয়ের জন্য কবি তার প্রশংসা করেছেন।)
