The Rime of The Ancient Mariner
S.T. Coleridge
Day after day, day after day
We stuck, nor breath nor motion;
As idle as a painted ship.
Upon a painted ocean.
Water, water, everywhere.
Not any drop to drink.
দিনের পর দিন, দিনের পর দিন
আমরা আটকে ছিলাম, নিঃশ্বাস নেই, নড়াচড়া নেই
চিত্রকল্পের জাহাজের ন্যায়
চিত্রিত সমুদ্রের বুকে
পানি, পানি, সর্বত্রই পানি,
নেই তবু একফোটা তৃষ্ণার জল।
The Theme : The speaker of the poem is the ancient mariner. These lines record the incident of their ship being stuck on the Atlantic Ocean. All the mariners were thirsty. They were eager to drink water. But as the curse fell on them, there were huge water around them but not a drop a drink. Because the old mariner hated the creature of God and killed an innocent albatross.
(কবিতাটির বক্তা / বর্ণনাকারী / কথক হচ্ছেন এক প্রবীন নাবিক। এই পুংক্তিগুলো আটলান্টিক মহাসাহরে তাদের জাহাজ আটকে পড়ার ঘটনা বিবৃত / বর্ণনা করছে। সকল নাবিক পিপাসার্ত ছিলেন। পানি পান করার জন্য তারা উদগ্রীব ছিলেন। তবে তাদের উপর অভিশাপ নেমে আসার কারণে চারপাশে অনেক পানি থাকলেও পান করার মতো কোনো পানি ছিল না। কারণ বন্ধ নাবিক সৃষ্টিকর্তার জীবনে ঘৃণা করেছিল তার এক নিষ্পাপ অ্যালবাট্রস পাখিকে হত্যা করেছিল।)
