Write down the theme of the following poem (Not more than 50 words)
Patriotism
Sir Walter Scott (1771 – 1832)
Breathes there the man with soul so dead.
Who never to himself hath said,
“This is my own, my native land!”
Whose heart hath ne’er within him burn’d
As home his footsteps he hath turn’d
From wandering on a foreign strand?
If such there breathe, go, mark him well;
For him no minstrel raptures swell;
High though his titles, proud his name.
Boundless his wealth as with can claim;
Despite those titles, power, and pelf,
The wretch, concentered all in self.
Living, shall forfeit fair renown.
And, doubly dying, shall go down
To the vile dust, from whence he sprung,
Unwept, unhonour’d and unsung.
The Theme : He who loves his own country is a patriot. He is honoured even after his death. On the contrary, an unpatriotic man is unsung and unhonoured. He who is a traitor dies doubly. A man devoid of love for his own country must be marked well despite his much power and pelf. In this poem, patriotism triumphs over wealth, riches, and power.
(যে তার নিজের দেশকে ভালোবাসে সে হলো দেশপ্রেমিক। একজন দেশপ্রেমিক তার মৃত্যুর পরও সম্মান পায়। পক্ষাপ্তরে, দেশকে ভালোবাসে না এমন ব্যক্তি প্রশংসা ও সম্মান পায় না। দেশদ্রোহী ব্যক্তি দু’বার মরে। দেশপ্রেম বিবর্জিত ব্যক্তির অনেক প্রভাব প্রতিপত্তি ও ধনদৌলত থাকলেও তাকে ভালোভাবে নজরদারিতে রাখতে হবে। এই কবিতায় দেশপ্রেমের কাছে ধনদৌলত ও প্রভাব প্রতিপত্তির তুচ্ছতা নির্দেশিত হয়।)
