There was a cap seller in a city. He used to go from village to village to sell the caps. His way lay through a forest. It was a hot summer day and it was very hot. He got tired. To get some rest, he sat under a shaded tree. Soon he fell asleep under the shadow of the tree. Monkeys lived in that tree. When they saw the caps, they climbed down the tree and each one of them put a cap on their head. Then, they climbed up the tree again.

The cap seller woke up after some time. He found that his caps were missing. By chance, he looked up and saw the monkeys wearing his caps. He tried his best to get his caps back but all his efforts were in vain. Suddenly, an idea struck his mind. He took off his own cap and threw it on the ground.

Monkeys did the same as they like to imitate. They all threw their caps onto the ground just as the seller had done. The cap seller quickly collected all his caps, put them back in his basket, and went away happily. His presence of mind saved his business that day.

অনুবাদ: এক শহরে এক টুপি বিক্রেতা ছিল। টুপি বিক্রি করার জন্য সে এক গ্রাম থেকে অন্য গ্রামে যেত। তার পথ ছিল বনের ভেতর দিয়ে। এটি ছিল গ্রীষ্মের দিন এবং প্রচণ্ড গরম। সে অনেক ক্লান্ত হয়ে পড়ল। কিছুক্ষণ বিশ্রাম নেওয়ার জন্য সে একটি গাছের ছায়ায় বসল। গাছের ছায়ায় শীঘ্রই সে ঘুমিয়ে পড়ল। সেই গাছে অনেক বানর বাস করত। যখন তারা টুপিগুলো দেখল তারা গাছ থেকে নেমে এল এবং প্রত্যেকেই একটি করে টুপি তাদের মাথায় পরিধান করল। তারপর তারা আবার গাছে উঠে গেল। কিছু সময় পর টুপি বিক্রেতা জেগে উঠল। সে দেখল যে তার টুপিগুলো নিখোঁজ। হঠাৎ সে ওপরে তাকাল এবং দেখল, বানরগুলো তার টুপিগুলো পরে আছে। সে তার টুপিগুলো ফেরত পাওয়ার জন্য সর্বোচ্চ চেষ্টা করল। কিন্তু তার সব চেষ্টাই ব্যর্থ হলো। হঠাৎ তার মাথায় একটি বুদ্ধি এল। সে তার নিজের টুপি খুলে ফেলল এবং মাটিতে ছুড়ে ফেলল। যেহেতু তারা অনুকরণ করতে পছন্দ করে, তারাও একই কাজ করল। টুপি বিক্রেতা তার সবগুলো টুপি সংগ্রহ করল এবং আনন্দচিত্তে চলে গেল। তার উপস্থিত বুদ্ধি ওইদিন তার ব্যবসাকে রক্ষা করল।
