Saint Martin's Island
Saint Martin's Island is small in Bangladesh. It is the only coral island in Bangladesh. It has an area of only 8 km2 in the north-eastern part of the Bay of Bengal. It is about 9 km south of the tip of the Cox's Bazar Teknaf. There is a small adjacent island. It is separated at high tide, called Chhera Island. It is about 8 km west of the north-west coast of Myanmar. During British period, the island was name St. Martin Island. The local name of the island is "Narikel Gingira". There are many turtles and sea-fishes here. The natural scenery of Saint Martin's Island is very beautiful. Now, it is one of the attractive tourist places of our country.
সেন্টমার্টিন দ্বীপ
সেন্টমার্টিন দ্বীপ বাংলাদেশের একটি ছোট দ্বীপ। এটা বাংলাদেশের একমাত্র প্রবাল দ্বীপ। এটা বঙ্গোপসাগরের উত্তর-পূর্ব প্রান্তে প্রায় আট বর্গ কিলোমিটার আয়তন জুড়ে আছে। এটা কক্সবাজার-টেকনাফ প্রান্ত থেকে প্রায় নয় কিলোমিটার দক্ষিণে অবস্থিত। এটার সাথে একটি ছোট দ্বীপ আছে। এটা ছেড়া দ্বীপ নামে পরিচিত যা জোয়ারের সময় মূল দ্বীপ থেকে বিচ্ছিন্ন হয়। এটা মায়ানমারের দক্ষিণ-পশ্চিম সৈকত থেকে প্রায় আট কিলোমিটার পশ্চিমে অবস্থিত। ইংরেজদের শাসনামলে এটার নামকরণ করা হয়েছিল সেন্টমার্টিন দ্বীপ। দ্বীপটির স্থানীয় নাম “নারিকেল জিঞ্জিরা”। এখানে অনেক কচ্ছপ ও সামুদ্রিক মাছ আছে। সেন্টমার্টিন দ্বীপের প্রাকৃতিক দৃশ্য খুব সুন্দর। বর্তমানে এটা দেশের একটি অন্যতম আকর্ষণীয় পর্যটন স্থান।
