There was an old pond in a village. It was full of frogs. The frogs were living there happily. Some of them often put their heads out of the water and croaked loudly. One day, some boys were playing by the side of the pond. When they heard the frogs croaking, they started throwing stones at them and made fun of them.

The stones hit them hard. As a result, some frogs were killed and many were wounded. The frogs were very much puzzled and did not know what to do. At last, an old frog raised its head and said, "Dear little boys, why are you killing us?"

The boys said, "We are not killing you. We are just playing." Then the frog said, "What is play to you is death to us." The boys became very sorry and ashamed. So, they stopped their game and left the place.

অনুবাদ: এক গ্রামে একটি পুরনো পুকুর ছিল। এটি ব্যাঙে পরিপূর্ণ ছিল। ব্যাঙগুলো সেখানে আনন্দেই বাস করছিল। তাদের মাঝে কেউ কেউ পানির ওপর তাদের মাথা বের করত এবং উচ্চৈঃস্বরে ডাকত। একদিন পুকুরের পাশে কয়েকজন বালক খেলা করছিল। যখন তারা ব্যাঙের ডাক শুনতে পেল, পাথর ছুঁড়তে শুরু করল এবং তাদের নিয়ে মজা করতে লাগল। পাথরগুলো ব্যাঙদের আঘাত করল। যার ফলে, কিছু ব্যাঙ মারা গেল এবং অনেকে আহত হলো। ব্যাঙগুলো হতভম্ব হয়ে গেল এবং বুঝতে পারল না কী করবে। অবশেষে এক বৃদ্ধ ব্যাঙ তার মাথা উঁচু করল এবং বলল, “প্রিয় ছোট্ট বালকেরা, তোমরা কেন আমাদের হত্যা করছো?” বালকরা বলল, "আমরা তোমাদের হত্যা করছি না। আমরা শুধু খেলছি।” তারপর ব্যাঙটি বলল, “যেটা তোমাদের জন্য খেলা, সেটা আমাদের জন্য মৃত্যু।” বালকরা খুবই দুঃখিত এবং লজ্জিত হলো। তাই তারা তাদের খেলা বন্ধ করল এবং সেখান থেকে চলে গেল।
